** It is interesting to note that William Henry Bonds possible AKA William Henry Ah Hie, was of Aboriginal ancesty. On his papers he was discharged due to "not (being) of substancial European origin" (at the time in 1917 this was an acceptable reasoning) however his brother Andy Bond AKA Andy Ah Hie was enlisted and passed all enlistment criteria. See Andy BOND Service Number 4509. It appears that Williams mother was Ellen Haddiegaddie AKA Ellen Addie Gaddie nee Ellen Demestre and his father Alick "Jack" Bond (both Aboriginal).

Further from local information: The Bond family was still in Braidwoood til the late 1910s then they moved to Batemans Bay, Tilba and Eden. William Bond was a jockey. Ellen Demestre - natural daughter of Sarah Lamb - had children to Alick (Jacky) BOND - black tracker from Braidwood in the 1880s, then children to James AHOY (Chinese) at Braidwood in the 1890s. She died 1934 as Ellen Haddigaddi. (Haddigaddi is an Aboriginal family originally from Jervis Bay and Wandandian).
